Paedophilia around Piccadilly Part 3 -Timeline of a Child Rapist 2 – Roger Gleaves

Roger Gleaves aka Roger Charles Gleaves aka Roger Charles Augustine Gleaves, aka Rt Rev Roger Gleaves, aka Roger C Gleaves, aka Cadet Sergeant Major Gleaves, aka Count di Giglio, aka Bishop of Medway, aka Vicar-General of Old Catholic Church in Great Britain,  aka Rupert- General Secretary of the Independent Voluntary Ambulance Corps aka Evans aka Adam Smiths is a serial child rapist.

To the papers he was often known as the Bogus Bishop and by Justice MacKenna as “a cruel and wicked man”.  He became known to the public from the TV programme Johnny Go Home, broadcast in July 1975 to 10 million viewers and the subsequent book.

His method of working was simple. At night he trawled around Euston Station, Piccadilly Station and Victoria Coach Station in his Bishops regalia.

He found runaways who needed a bed for the night. He put them up in one of his 20 “childrens hostels” most of which were squats. He gave them false ID cards and claimed the Department of Health and Social Security money for each resident. Cooking facilities were almost non existent, as were toilets and food was in short supply.

He had a penchant/fetish for uniforms and spent much time sewing gold braid and social worker badges onto adapted RAF uniforms. [5] [21]. He had 27 bank accounts which perhaps indicated where his priorities lay. [3]

He operated under various registered charity name and numbers, taking advantage of the false belief that the Charities Commission checks in some way and peoples perceptions that the organisation must be legitimate, safe or good. He even managed to get a couple of unsuspecting high profile patrons – an MP and a Lord.

The religious titles were from various branches of obscure church sects with names such as Old Catholic Church of Great Britain.

His further scams were a take from the thieving and prostitution arranged at or from his hostels. Also he arranged for children aged 14 to work as security guards and have the money paid to him.

He then took his pick of the poor, needy children to abuse at night. He was a relentless child abuser who has probably sexually abused thousands of children.

Roger Gleaves was notorious for his violent approach when people crossed him [5] and he had an entourage of people who owed him favours who were willing to indulge in violence. Billy “Two Tone” was a friend of a Hackney hostel warden Jim Hyland [p138] who had argued with Gleaves and left for Brighton. Two groups of men tortured Billy to find out the wardens whereabouts. The second crew knifed him 20 times and left him dead by the side of the road. They got life sentences but Gleaves only received 4 years for buggery, indecent assaults and assaults and he was out in 2 years.

He continued his charity registrations, false names, social security fraud, dodgy security work, church sects, debt retrieval companies and raping children all his life and yo-yoed in and out of jail.

He spent his time in prison getting qualifications and got [21] 40 O levels, 17 A levels,  two BA degrees and passed an external law LLB course. He used this knowledge to launch an avalanche of over 50 private prosecutions,  on all who had annoyed him including his barber for a bad hair cut, until he was labelled a vexatious litigant. This meant he was limited in having to apply to the High Court if he wishes to bring an action.

Following is a brief summary of his long criminal and paedophilic life.  His links with other paedophiles are bound to be extensive but difficult to prove. However the provable links are disturbing enough.

Father John Hardings son Michael Woodland, who was a youth club leader,  got reduced punishment and was let off prison sentence for shop breaking , theft and 9 previous convictions after Gleaves performance as character witness Bishop of Medway in Court. 1974 Jun 30 Sun Chief Superintendent Dudley Pratt, East Sussex CID [5], and Detective Chief Inspector Bob Marshall at Hounslow Police station held a meeting re Phil Holland and the others.

Police, social workers, probation officers, and even the Home Office knew of hostels but did nothing. Arnold Shaw MP went to DHSS to campaign for tighter controls. Lambeth had been discussing since 1973 when it was rumoured it was “male brothel run by priests” but did nothing [21a].

Gleaves trial opened the day the others were found guilty. Charged with actual bodily harm to Billy, 8 charges related to hostels including buggery on boy under 21. [p174] The boy A.B was on the run from a mental hospital.   The second boy B.S.was similar. The boys were honest but contradicted themselves. Jury decided defendants guilty by closest margin possible [p176]. There were still grievous bodily harm charges against Billy and two similar charges against other inmates.  Gleaves did a plea bargain, not guilty to first two but guilty to last two [p176]. 1975 Summer Michael Meacher set up internal inquiry social service under secretary had announced that the Home Secretary has instituted a full internal inquiry in connection with the Gleaves affair [22]. Lord Wells -Pestell called for Hostel loopholes to be shut, and Norman Fowler demanded Barbara Castle urgently review her refusal to have a public inquiry [22]. The Home Office had issued a circular stating Gleaves had a criminal record but it did not warn the correct authorities. 1977/78 Following Nov 1977, the Sunday Times, Met Police Commissioner, Chief Constable of Sussex, even Prison barber at Wandsworth faced court action for “an unnecessary and shoddy haircut”. Gleaves had another 50 private prosecutions pending.  Not until 26 Jun 1982 that he was declared vexatious litigant by 2 high court judges [21c]

1982 Aug 10 Spotlight on Abuse Murun [79] In 1981 Police investigating Elm guest House

In August 1982, detectives from Scotland Yard were investigating connections between the disappearance or murder of the two boys and the Elm Guest House paedophile ring. This was reported in both the Daily Express and the Daily Star on 10th August 1982. These were the only news reports to link the two boys to Elm Guest House. The national newspapers were stopped from reporting on the scandal after 16th August 1982. It’s still a mystery exactly how they were stopped, but it involved legal threats from the Attorney General, Sir Michael Havers, and lawyers purportedly acting for Elm Guest House [79].

1993 Gleaves set up Independent Voluntary Ambulance Corps and was now calling himself Rupert teaching First Aid at Tottenham Sports Centre at White Hart Lane [21b]. He described himself as General Secretary and the groups Chairman David Butler, said the offences were along time ago and that he was reformed character [21b].

1994 Gleaves worked as Mephistopheles Debt Collection Agency with Terence Patrick Ewing [31]. It is believed his sons were named as Directors by Gleaves but took no part in the business. The motto was ‘It’s no use dying to avoid us – we pursue debtors to the gates of Hell if necessary in order to recover our clients’ money’. Mephistopheles is a German demon [43].

1994 Jun 29 Daily Mail [19] Peter Rose and David Williams. “Bishop”  held as Child Porn is seized in Dawn Swoops – by Scotland Yards Obscene publications Squad, nearly 100 officers involved.  10 dawn raids in London and home counties. 5000 videos seized. British children abused and police liaising with social services to identify them. Investigation linked at least 3 paedophile rings in Southern England with massive European network. Children abused by adults and filmed in England. Tapes are copied in  England or Amsterdam and then distributed on the continent, together with names of children featured, enabling paedophiles to target the children [19].

Prime Minister John Major [59] put child pornography at top of law and order agenda [71]. This followed 6 month undercover investigation, on men who claim to work for ambulance service or the church. One man claimed to be Archbishop of the Old Catholic Church . Raids coincide with controversy over plans to get rid of Obscene Publications squad by Met Police Commissioner Sir Paul Condon. Michael Howard is poised to save the 16 strong team after 200 MPs supported the officers. [19]
