With the mainstream media spotlight on Peter Hayman after the finding of the “unnatural sex” file recently in the archives, I thought it worth summarising the following information.
In 2013 I requested the files involved in the decision not to prosecute Sir Peter Hayman via a Freedom of Infomation request .
I asked the Crown Prosecution Service , quoting this:
“The Attorney-General, Michael Havers replied, ‘I am in agreement with the Director of Public Prosecutions’ (Sir Thomas Chalmers Hetherington QC) advice not to prosecute Sir Peter Hayman and the other persons with whom he had carried on an obscene correspondence.’
Please could you release the papers involved in this decision not to prosecute Sir Peter Hayman”
Eventually I was told
” Our records show that the file you requested was destroyed on 17th February 2006. ”
It may be worth researchers asking if there are more details of how many pages this was etc. Perhaps the police still have details. Perhaps the advice is still available somewhere?
Also of relevance to Peter Hayman were my questions to the “D Notice Committee” recently, when the Secretary Andrew Vallance could not conceive that a member of the secret services could be a paedophile, despite the fact I mentioned Peter Hayman as part of this scenario. He replied
“Your hypothesis .. is not only completely speculative and unfounded, but also ignores the internal checks and balances within the intelligence agencies (not the least of which is the direct vetting system). These impose a constant watch for any potential security risks; they would certainly involve anyone (however exalted) involved in paedophilia.”
It would seem that the current secretary of the D Notice committee needs to educate himself upon the risks to national security. If he is of the opinion he expressed then he himself is a threat to national security. I enclose links to my other two posts of correspondence with him
Please note that victims of abuse may be triggered by reading this information. The Sanctuary for the Abused [A] has advice on how to prevent triggers. National Association for People Abused in Childhood [B] has a freephone helpline and has links to local support groups. Other useful sites are One in Four [C] and Havoca [D].
