Redaction Some reports have had victims names redacted and some assault details redacted. This is a difficult balance-  normally I would think that  I should not “censor” details but on consultation with various people I have taken the decision to redact. This is mainly to protect victims, their friends and relatives from unnecessary detail and to stop the gratification of those who seek salacious details. In addition to the obvious “victims redaction” I have thus “assault redacted” on descriptions of assaults but not on the charges themselves. It appears to make no large difference to the vital information for researchers that these documents contain. That information is mainly names of the perpetrators, past addresses, and the charges they faced – on which newspapers are pathetically inaccurate. If you think that the balance is not correct or that a particular redaction needs reconsideration, please say.

Maximum Sentence of Three Years Jail on men who had obscene photographs

Two men who were said to have planned to advertise obscene photographs of teenage boys in the underground magazine Oz were each given the maximum sentence of three years’ imprisonment by Judge Edward Clarke, QC at the Central Criminal Court yesterday. They were Andrew Prichodsky, aged 24, and Kenneth Edward O’Neill, aged 22, both of North Common Road, Ealing, London. They had pleaded guilty to having for publication for gain a number of obscene photographs. Their plea of not guilty to conspiracy to publish obsene photographs was accepted by the court. Passing sentence Judge Clarke said: “You set up an organisation with photographic equipment to take obscene pictures of boys be- tween nine and 18. For that purpose you went out and found those boys, you took them to your rooms, and eventually seduced thea into providing you with the photographs you wanted. ‘You then set up an organisation in order to market these photographs for profit. I have been told a lot about obscenity and indecency, but the only cliche that comes to mind is that this was hard- core pornography at its worst, coupled with a very strong element of corruption of youth. You both merit the maximum penalty.” Mr Kenneth Richardson, for the prosecution said the photographs were mainly of boys aged 12 to 13 and 18 to 19. The Crown alleged that the defendants were plannng to set up or were in process of setting up a business called Tiger Studios for selling obscene photo- graphs on October 14 last year two police officers with a search warrant went to Elm Court, Harrowby Street, in the West End, where Mr Prichodsky had a room. On a table they found a blue envelope containing obscene photographs of a 14-year-old boy. Mr Prichodsky said: ” Yes, I took them. You may think it funny, but I like pictures of young boys and there are a lot of influential people of the same mind. You would be surprised if I told you some of their names.” In a cupboard, Mr Richardson went on, the officers found 13 cans of 35mm black and white film of boys, some of whom were extremely young. Referring to the boy of 14, Mr Prichodsky said: “He had left home. I met him in an amusement arcade in the West End. He had been staying with me. I have spent £80 on him mostly on clothes, and now he has …… off and left me,” On December 9 other police officers went to North Common Road. Ealing, where they found Mr O’Neill and a boy in bed in one room and Mr Prichodsky in bed in another room. Around both beds were strewn many obscene photographs of boys and hanging on the walls neatly framed were similar pictures. Two documents were seized. One was a list of boys with telephone numbers where they could be reached. The other was a mailing list which referred, among other publications, to Oz magazine. Counsel continued: ” It was clear that the defendants were hoping to enlist Oz in distributing the photo-graphs and possibly obtain models through their advertisements.” A letter advertising the Tiger Studios said: ‘ We are a new thing in photography of the modern male, new in ideas, new in photo-graphy, and new in young models selected fresh from school. We have got them round to our way of thinking. “We have spent a lot of money on them. We are offering 12 postcard-sized photographs of 11- year-old Jimmy for £5. He was a virgin. . . Counsel said that on a piece of paper found at the Ealing address was written: ” Oz for models.” Altogether 1,800 photographs were seized. The judge said in his view he was entitled to take into consideration the way in which the photographs were obtained.

Harrowby Street is close to Praed Street & Sussex Gardens (cf Sir Peter Morrison caught there) in outer roads of Paddington Station and possibly closer to Marylebone Station, both mainline overground stations within walking distance.
