7 More Reports on Child Abuse from Lambeth publicly released

I am not sure why I never got round to posting this draft a couple of years ago – illness or lack of internet, but it appears just about complete.

There is some follow up work required to get them less redacted and other reports- if others interested could do that. If anyone could do summaries that would be fantastic.

I only noticed that I had not posted these extra reports when posting a twitter thread on Lambeth today. The thread contains many of the posts I have made on Lambeth, Shirley Oaks and Beecholme. It includes posts with links to about 20 now public Reports from Lambeth, released by my FOI Requests. There are also a couple of Reports from Shirley Oaks and Beecholme Survivors groups summarising the abuse – both well worth a read.

Lambeth Council have released 8 Reports on child sexual abuse.Child Abuse Reports Lambeth  [13]

I thank the people responsible for the disclosures. The decision to release documents was certainly not agreed by others in the Council not very long ago. However it is the correct moral and ethical decision and I hope this is a change of heart by Lambeth to do the right thing by the children abused in their care.

I believe that the reports are overly redacted as regards redacted peoples names, and do not even though there were public officials doing public jobs. I am still chasing low hanging fruit and thus will not challenge this at the present time, though would help others if they decide to.

I do not believe that they have redacted as per ICO guidance

• Provide as much meaningful information as possible. For example, when redacting names you may still be able to give an indication of the person’s role, or which pieces of correspondence came from the same person.
• As far as possible, ensure that what you provide makes sense. If you have redacted so much that the document is unreadable, consider what else you can do to make the information understandable and useful for the requester.

I have only skimmed the reports, not read them. However I have noticed that there are references to other inspections and reports not yet public, particularly in the Chestnut Report. If anyone can follow these up it would be useful, list them and do more FOI’s.

The above has many names of other reports and Inpection Reports – which may be available if people ask for them via FOI

This just leaves the following reports to be asked for that Lambeth say they have possession of.

• Notes of Management Inquiry into allegations concerning XX (1985)
• Detailed background into the setting up the formal enquiry into allegations by XX that XX was sexually abused (1986)

It also still leaves all the Inspection Reports and other reports mentioned in released reports that need to be asked for. However due to my limited time on the net these days, I have not sorted out the titles and dates of them yet but it is better that this post is published sooner rather than later. [! better late than never]
