Niven Sinclair is dead. He abused whilst working for the BBC

Niven Sinclair, serial child abuser, appears to have died recently.

I first heard that it had been announced on the Clan Sinclair chatline that Niven Sinclair has died. [See comments on my post Niven Sinclair – Three times convicted Child Rapist worked for the BBC for 30 years [1] ]

I have also been sent a link to a Priory of Sion webpage, which has an obituary of sorts, and headed by this notice [2]

None of this of course officially confirms his death, but it appears probable.

@mwalkerdine has sent the following information and advice.

“NIVEN JAMES SINCLAIR AGED 93 of 58 PETWORTH ROAD, HASLEMERE GU27 3AU

If and when someone person dies you normally get buried within weeks unless inquest is done. If inquest is not done then a death certificate would be issued to the family or friends within days after buried etc.

For official confirmation it depends where he died. I contacted Surrey BirthsMarriagesDeaths. So far they don’t have a system in place that tells them who is dead. General Register Office has told me that their database has a 6 months gap from when councils provide the details of people getting born, married or died to be entered on their database.”

So if anyone finds official confirmation or any information, please put in comments below. This can be done anonymously if you wish.

Since I wrote the original Niven Sinclair post [1] almost exactly a year ago, I have been informed by multiple sources that Niven abused young boys whilst working for the BBC, including Panorama. This was obviously suspected, as he was a 3 times convicted multiple child rapist before joining the BBC, but has now been confirmed.

Niven Sinclair was also investigated by Operation Yewtree, which had I not previously realised.

As this is the case, it is almost inconceivable that the BBC did not know that fact. That raises even more questions about the BBC’s conduct – not only about when the abuse was being committed but also recently when they have been less than open about child sexual abuse at the BBC.

I also feel that they were less honest than they should have been in their answers to my Freedom of Information request [3].

For example “We are not aware of any complaint having been made to the BBC about him.”

Maybe but the BBC were surely aware of Operation Yewtree investigating Niven Sinclair, and therefore of abusing whilst working for the BBC. So this BBC comment appears designed to obfuscate and mislead.

Bizarrely, unprecedented in my experience of making FOI requests, the reply also included a statement of BBC spin that they wanted me to put into any story I wrote, – and this in a reply to a FOI request!

Just so that people can judge for themselves the BBC statement that the Ministry of Propaganda and Cover-up of Child Abuse wanted me to publish, I have placed it in Appendix 1. It is of the “all in the past, nothing to see now” variety.

All very shifty, BBC. Shifty. You are still not coming clean.

Furthermore there has been much publicity about Dave Smith, described as Savile’s chauffeur eg Jimmy Savile chauffeur Dave Smith was ‘prolific paedophile’ with 22 convictions Telegraph [25]

In fact my information is that Smith was not Jimmy Savile’s official chauffeur, as Smith actually worked for breakfast television when Frank Bough, Selina Scott and Debbie Greenwood presented it. They incidentally all knew him by name and were all on good terms with him.

I wrote, as conjecture in my last article on Niven –

Which company did Dave Smith, Jimmy Savile’s chauffeur work for? Did he work for Sinclair’s company, or were there two chauffeur companies used by the BBC that had child abusers?  

I can reveal that Dave Smith did work for Niven, for 14 years. Even when he lost his driving licence he was kept on by Niven to work in the office.

So the BBC employed, to chauffeur their employees, clients and guests, Niven Sinclair’s company which was run by and also employed a convicted child rapist.

It is not a valid excuse for the BBC that Niven ran his own company.

• The BBC must have had many contracts with the 3 times convicted child rapist. The BBC must publish them.
• How did Niven Sinclair get a job with the BBC straight out of jail?
• Who got him the job?
• Why were checks not done? or why or were checks done and no abuse was found? or did checks find abuse but still Niven was still employed?
• Were MI5 involved in vetting?

I wrote this in bold in my last article on Niven, the second part in bold is even more relevant now.

“If Niven Sinclair has not been identified as a convicted serial child rapist, or has been identified but that fact hidden from the public, the BBC has STILL not learnt the lessons. We still do not understand what went wrong in the BBC.”

This also raises questions about the Janet Smith review. Smith addressed the culture of the BBC at the time of Savile’s offending and she looked into various news articles yet she did not follow up on Dave Smith [25] – a 22 times convicted child abusing chauffeur in a BBC employed company.

Why did she not follow up on Niven Sinclair either? She must have known he was the subject of an Operation Yewtree investigation, and with basic research would have found out he was a 3 times convicted multiple child rapist who had worked for the BBC for 30 years surely worthy of mention in her Review. Did she do that research?

Janet Smith said “I have found no evidence that any one BBC employee above producer level could stand accused of complicity in Savile’s crimes in connection with his work at the BBC” [5]. She cleared the broadcaster as a corporate body of knowing about it. She found “no evidence that a senior BBC employee was complicit in Savile’s crimes”

I am not so sure.  I think there is a great deal more to come out about abuse at the BBC.

I do not know at present what evidence she needed for a “corporate body to know about Savile’s crimes”, nor which positions are considered “above producer level”, nor what Smith might define as “complicity”. I suggest that senior positions may have been let off lightly so far.

BBC Propaganda Statement of the “all in the past, nothing to see now” variety, authored perhaps by a BBC intern with a hangover, perhaps wanting promotion to #FakeNews capital CNN. For translation set automatic translation to “doublespeak” mode.

“The BBC has no dealings with Niven James Sinclair today and as far as we’re able to establish he has no connection to any company the BBC deals with. We are not aware of any complaint having been made to the BBC about him. The BBC has robust child safety procedures in place today which were independently reviewed and found to be strong by the GoodCorporation in 2015, and we’re working with the NSPCC to advise on any further improvements which could be made.” [3]
